Control of Asbestos Regulations.
The examination and testing of materials for asbestos is typically carried out to adhere to the Control of Asbestos Regulations. This may be part of the obligation to manage asbestos under regulation 4 or to meet the requirements of regulation 5. Regulation 5 mandates that employers whose workers may encounter asbestos must either analyze the materials to identify the types of asbestos or assume that the material contains the most dangerous types, namely crocidolite and/or amosite. The goal of sampling is to gather representative samples of the materials suspected to contain asbestos. The aim of the analysis is to establish whether asbestos is present, and if it is, to identify the type(s) involved.
